DescriptionThis is a test regularly measured to detect and monitor diabetes.
IndicationHyperglycaemia (DM, steroid therapy, endocrine disorders). Hypoglycaemia (hyperinsulinism, endocrine disorders, alcoholism).
Additional InfoAction limits <2.5 mmol/L and >30 mmol/L known diabetic or >20 unknown diabetic. See glucose tolerance test. Please note: this test can only be performed on FLUORIDE OXALATE samples

InterpretationHypoglycaemia is defined as plasma glucose <2.5 mmol/L. A random blood glucose >11 mmol/L or a fasting blood glucose >/=7.0 mmol/L is indicative of DM.
