DescriptionA series of clotting tests on a mixture of normal and patients plasma with the aim of distinguishing a factor deficiency from a coagulation inhibitor.
IndicationInvestigation of a bleeding tendency
Additional InfoA 50:50 mixture of normal & patients plasma is tested at several timed intervals to see if the abnormal patients plasma is corrected by addition of normal plasma. Also to see if the correction is maintained of a 2 hour period when incubated at 37C.
Concurrent TestsCoagulation screen, Factor Assays
Dietary RequirementsNone
Interpretation1.) The patients plasma corrects and stays corrected - consistent with a factor deficiency. 2.) The patients plasma does not correct or corrects less than 70% - consistent with a Lupus like inhibitor. 3.) The patients plasma corrects but returns to abnormal coagulation after 2 hours - consistent with a factor inhibitor.
