DescriptionSickle haemoglobin is a consequence of an amino acid substitution in one or both of the beta chains in the haemoglobin molecule. The sickle solubility test will detect Hb S levels of > 10%.

Additional InfoAll results confirmed by further testing using HPLC. Minimum sample volume 1ml.
Concurrent TestsFBC, haemoglobinopathy screen.
Dietary Requirementsnone
InterpretationThe solubility test is a screening method only and will not differentiate between homozygous or heterozygous forms.
