DescriptionWounds infected with Clostridium botulinum produce systemic symptoms of Botulism. Intravenous drug users are at a higher risk. Wound culture requests should particularly mention the clinical suspicion of Botulism. Ideally obtain tissue and/or pus material before the administration of the antitoxin. Specimens may be obtained up to 24 hrs after the antitoxin and start of antibiotics. Tissue specimens are preferred.
