DescriptionProducts of catecholine metabolism. NOTE: Plasma metanephrines are NOT ROUTINELY AVAILABLE. Urine metanephrines is front line test for phaeochromocytoma. If plasma metanephrines are required please discuss test with the Duty Biochemist.
IndicationConditions with genetic predisposition for phaeo, MEN 2, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Neurofibromatosis type 1. Also adrenal incidenatalomas and in cases where 24 hr urine collections are difficult

Collection ConditionsIf possible, sample should be collected whilst patient is lying down after 30 min rest. Samples must be received in the lab within 30 minutes of collection, ideally on ice.
