DescriptionSwab samples from the surface of the skin can help isolate organisms that cause skin infections such as impetigo. They can also be used to rule out superinfection of eczematous areas. Occassionally they are used for surveillance cultures during outbreak investigations with multi-drug resistant nosocomial organisms. Please apply the swab to an area of skin that appears clinically infected. Automated liquid culture is used with manual plate reading
