|Indication||Detection of pancreatic disease associated with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, monitoring of these patients, excluding other patients from further tests.
|Additional Info||Can also be used to evaluate adequacy of oral enzyme therapy for CF/pancreatic insufficiency. More reliable than measuring trypsin. Chymotrypsin develops faster than elastase so can be tested in the new born.
|Interpretation||Increased in acute pancreatitis, decreased in chronic pancreatitis and late cystic fibrosis, values normal in intestinal disease
