Search Links: General Info : Protocols : LabTestsOnline

DescriptionVarious bartonella spp. cause different infections. Cat scratch fever, bacillary angiomatosis, Oroya fever, Verruca peruana and Peliosis hepatis are some of the infections caused. Bartonella can also cause infective endocarditis. PCR based diagnosis as well as culture offers advantage over serology particularly in the immunocompromised patient. This test is referred to HPA Colindale (RSIL) Respiratory and Systemic Infection Laboratory. EDTA blood PCR might be useful for some of the above clinical presentations but please contact the laboratory for further advice before taking the sample.
