DescriptionParvovirus B19 the causative agent of erythema infectiosum also known as "slapped cheek syndrome" or "fifth disease" can also cause hydrops fetalis during pregnancy, aplastic crisis in sickle cell disesea or hereditary spherocytosis and cause arthralgia. In primary infection a rash can occur and B19 should be excluded as a cause for a rash in pregnancy. Test is referred toHPA reference laboratory
