DescriptionAn aminoglycoside that requires therapeutic drug monitoring because of its nephrotoxicity and vestibulo-ototoxicity. Similar to gentamicin, multiple daily dosing and once daily dosing regimens exist with various reference ranges. If you are not able to interpret the amikacin level result safely please contact microbiology for advice. For multiple daily dosing: pre-dose level before next dose, post-dose level 1 hr after injection or end of infusion. For once daily dosing: follow your local protocol for collection time.
Indication
Additional Info Amikacin tests are sent away to a reference laboratory. Interim results are available within 48hrs. A final report is available after 5 days.
