|Description||Neurotransmittere metabolites. CONTACT CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY BEFORE CARRYING OUT THIS TEST. Three samples are needed - Tube 1 - 0.5 mL for HVA & 5HIAA. Tube 2 - 0.5 mL. Tube 3 (with preservative - DTE DETAPAC) - 1.0 mL for Pterin analysis. Collect tubes and collection instructions from Biochemistry on day of procedure.|
|Interpretation||Reference intervals are age related for HVA and 5HIAA. HVA:5HIAA ratio - 1.0-3.7. Neopterin 7 - 65 nmol/L. Dihydrobiopterin <0.4 - 13.9 nmol/L.
|Collection Conditions||The samples should be sent to the Laboratory on dry ice as they MUST be frozen at the bedside. CAUTION - pterin cannot be measured on blood-stained CSF samples. Sample tubes(x3) to be collected form the laboratory.|
