DescriptionThis test is no longer routinely available. Please contact the Duty Biochemist for further discussion if required. PLASMA ANALYSIS NO LONGER INDICATED/AVAILABLE - ANALYSIS IS PERFORMED ON URINE. PLEASE SEE ENTRY FOR BILE ACIDS (URINE). Bile salt testing is available to paediatric patients under Dr McLean or for patients who have had a bilary diversion procedure and present with itching. (The request card may ask for bile salt adults) Please DO NOT enter these as a problem.
Indication
Additional InfoBile acids increase in hepatobiliary disease, when the liver is injured and the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids is disturbed, bile acids spillover past the liver into the systemic circulation.
