ID:390 Chromium
Search Links: General Info : Protocols : LabTestsOnline

DescriptionAn essential role for chromium remains equivocal because demonstration of deficiency is problematic; normal blood and plasma concentrations are at analytically challenging levels and specimen collection requires scrupulous avoidance of contamination.
Indication Usually in suspected toxicity. A small number of patients implanted with metal on metal (MoM) hip replacements develop progressive soft tissue reactions due to wear debris associated with MoM articulations. MHRA reccommends that whole blood chromium and cobalt are measured. Refer to Medical Device Alert: MDA/2012/036
