ID:905 ADAMTS13 Assay
Search Links: General Info : Protocols : Patient Info

DescriptionADAMTS13 cleaves Von Willebrands factor into smaller multimers. A deficiency of inhibition of ADAMTS13 activity leads to very large Von Willebrands multimers being released into the circulation. These activate platelets causing aggregation and the formation of micro-thrombi. The poor prognosis associated with TTP requires early, accurate diagnosis
Indication To investigate Thrombotic Thrombocytopaenic Purpura (TTP)
Additional Info Also known as Von Willebrands cleaving protease. Test is performed at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.
Concurrent TestsCoagulation screen, FBC
Dietary RequirementsNone

InterpretationReported against a normal range

Ref. Range (Male)52 - 149
Ref. Range (Female) 52 - 149
Ref. Range (Paed) 52 - 149
Ref. Range Notes An ADAMTS-13 activity of <10 IU/dL is highly suspicious of TTP within an appropriate clinical context. ANY ADAMTS-13 result MUST be interpreted within the clinical context by an experienced clinician.
