Description Autoantibodies to the complement classical pathway component C1q.
IndicationAnti-C1q antibodies are associated with Hypocomplementaemic Urticarial Vasculitis (HUV) and have been reported in SLE, especially those with renal involvement (Lupus Nephritis). Anti-C1q antibodies are associated with a low complement C4 and often a low complement C3 as well.

Interpretation Anti-C1q Ab are used in the diagnosis of HUV. Anti-C1q Ab can also be found in patients with SLE, particularly those with renal involvement. Patients with Low titres of anti-C1q Ab are at low risk of developing an active lupus nephritis; thoses with a high anti-C1q Ab titre have a high risk of developing an active lupus nephritis.
