|Description||Antipsychotic Drug. Not routinely available. All UK patients on clozapine are enrolled with the Clozapine Patient Monitoring Service (CPMS) which is provided in Leeds by the Intensive community service. Please contact the pharmacist at The Mount on 0113 3055530 to discuss requests. Consult TOXBASE if overdose is suspected.|
|Indication||Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) . Antipsychotic that is used to treat schizophrenia which has proved resistant to conventional drugs. Advise urgent FBC to check white cell count if not already done.|
|Interpretation||Side-effects of clozapine include hypersalivation, hypotension, lethargy, somnolence, and convulsions. There is a risk of hypotension leading to renal failure and seizure, tachycardia and coma in overdose; a single dose of 300-400 mg may be life-threatening in a naive subject. Risk of agranulcytosis, WBC should be monitored.
