IndicationDetection of pancreatic disease associated with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, monitoring of these patients, excluding other patients from further tests.
Additional InfoCan also be used to evaluate adequacy of oral enzyme therapy for CF/pancreatic insufficiency. More reliable than measuring trypsin. Chymotrypsin develops faster than elastase so can be tested in the new born.
