|Description||Various bartonella spp. cause different infections. Cat scratch fever, bacillary angiomatosis, Oroya fever, Verruca peruana and Peliosis hepatis are some of the infections caused. Bartonella can also cause infective endocarditis. PCR based diagnosis as well as culture offers advantage over serology particularly in the immunocompromised patient. This test is referred to HPA Colindale (RSIL) Respiratory and Systemic Infection Laboratory. Tissue samples should be placed in universal container with a few drops of sterile normal saline to prevent desiccation.
