DescriptionA small plasma protein. In the serum RBP is complexed with transthyretin which preserves it from renal filtration. Uncomplexed RBP is readily filtered by the glomerulus and absorbed by the proximal tubule.
IndicationDiagnosis & management of renal tubular disorders, (or assessment of nutritional status, or indicator of hepatic synthesis in acute liver disease).
Additional InfoUrine is the preferred analyte for assessment of renal tubular function. Serum sample also acceptable (gel serum ok)
