DescriptionA small plasma protein. In the serum RBP is complexed with transthyretin which preserves it from renal filtration. Uncomplexed RBP is readily filtered by the glomerulus and absorbed by the proximal tubule.
IndicationAssessment of nutritional status (serum), indicator of hepatic synthesis in acute liver disease (serum), diagnosis & management of renal tubular disorders (urine).
Additional InfoRetinol binding protein may also be measured in urine samples for the assessment of renal tubular function.
