|Indication||Detect & assess pancreatic function in suspected chronic pancreatitis or carcinoma of pancreas head
|Additional Info||A test meal of carbohydrate, protein & fat is given, which stimulates secretion of cholecystokinin and secretin from duodenal mucosa. These in turn, stimulate secretion of pancreatic juices, which are assessed by tryptase activity
|Interpretation||<6 IU/L is seen in 67% chronic pancreatitis & 80% head carcinomas. False positives in coeliacs, long standing DM, duodenal ulcers, partial gastrectomy.
