Policy on Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Phenotyping and Genotyping

An alpha-1 antitrypsin phenotyping test will be added only if the AAT value is <0.9 g/L.

However, all specific requests for alpha-1 antitrypsin phenotyping will be carried out regardless of the AAT level.

Where an abnormal phenotype is identified genotyping is recommended. Samples for genotyping will only be sent away if an abnormal phenotype has been identified.
