Policy for ANCA Testing

Samples requesting ANCA will be assayed by indirect immunofluorescence using fixed neutrophils.

ANCA negative results will be reported and no further action taken.

Positive ANCAs will be assayed for anti-PR3 and anti-MPO Ab and for ANA using the Bioplex 2200. Upon validation, MPO/PR3 results will go out with the positive immunofluorescence ANCA result.

ANCA positive samples (immunofluorescence) are not routinely titred.  ANCA may be titrated if a specific request is made to the laboratory for a patient where there is strong evidence of ANCA-vasculitis in the absence of anti-PR3 or anti-MPO.

Also see the policy on Urgent Sample.
